UGA Football: Frierson – Bennett Answers The Call With Stellar Performance
May we all one day, in whatever it is we devote ourselves to with great passion and determination, have a day like Stetson Bennett IV had Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium.
Great isn’t strong enough. Magical feels pretty close. Beautiful also covers it quite well, especially if you’re a Georgia football fan and an admirer of Bennett and what he’s done in his Bulldog career.
After starting the first five games for Georgia last season, Bennett, now a senior backup to junior JT Daniels, had to replace Daniels in the starting lineup in the second-ranked Bulldogs’ home opener against UAB. Coach Kirby Smart said earlier this week that redshirt freshman Carson Beck was the Bulldogs’ No. 2 quarterback, but when Georgia needed a fill-in starter, Georgia’s coaches went with the veteran, someone that’s one of the few remaining on the roster from the Bulldogs’ run to the Rose Bowl and the National Championship Game in 2017.
“We just have a lot of young players who are trying to grow up and we thought it would give a calming effect to have him in with his experience and his ability to play in games,” Smart said of the decision to start Bennett.
UGA Football: Frierson Chats With Channing Tindall
Channing Tindall has an energy about him. When he walks in the room, you immediately get the sense that he’s happy to be there and happy to talk about anything and everything.
Tindall, a senior inside linebacker from Columbia, S.C., and the rest of the No. 2-ranked Georgia football team were certainly happy after last Saturday’s season-opening 10-3 win over then-No. 3 Clemson in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte, N.C. The defense held the Tigers without a touchdown and to just 2 rushing yards. Tindall had three tackles in the win.
By Monday, of course, Georgia had turned its attention to Saturday’s home opener against UAB. During a Quick Chat after practice Tuesday, Tindall talked about moving on mentally to the next game, his mom’s cooking, attending Georgia after growing up in Gamecocks country, and much more. Here’s some of what he had to say:

ATHENS, Ga. — Quarterback Stetson Bennett IV completed his first five passes, for 245 yards and four touchdowns, and the No. 2-ranked Georgia football team was rolling early Saturday in the Bulldogs’ 56-7 win over UAB at Sanford Stadium.
Georgia’s return to Dooley Field for the first time since Nov. 21, 2020, was about as triumphant as it could get. Saturday’s home opener was at full capacity and there was much to cheer about from the very outset.
Bennett, the redshirt senior starting for the sixth time in his career, in place of junior JT Daniels, completed a 73-yard touchdown pass on the second play from scrimmage. He hit wide-open sophomore wide receiver Jermaine Burton on the strike, setting the tone for the day. Four minutes later, after a stop by the Georgia (2-0) defense, Bennett connected with junior running back Kenny McIntosh for a 12-yard score and a 14-0 lead with 10:17 left in the first quarter.
