UGA Football: Smart, Bulldogs Preview Ole Miss Game

ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart, along with several student-athletes, previewed the upcoming game against Ole Miss with media on Monday. They offered the following comments.

Opening Statement
“Before we jump to Ole Miss, I want to talk about some accolades and some things going on in the athletic department to make sure we get great coverage for our other teams. Basketball is getting ready to start. The women’s soccer team, which I got to watch the semifinal match and parts of the final match, won the SEC tournament. So, want to congratulate Keidane (McAlpine) and his team, his staff. What a tremendous job. He has made a major impact on our soccer program really quickly, and they, hopefully, will be hosting a Friday match here in Athens, which should come out today.

“But also, I want to encourage everybody to come out for basketball. They’ve both got home openers this week. I think the women open tonight, 7 p.m., against North Carolina A&T, here at home, and then the men play Friday night at 7 also against Wake Forest. So, with the excitement of our game, we should get a great turnout for both of the basketball teams, as well as the women’s soccer. So, encourage you guys to help promote that and get folks out for that.

“Moving to Ole Miss, they’ve got a really good football team. They’ve improved. You watch them on tape, and you watch the games throughout the year, they’ve improved with every game. They’ve played a tremendous schedule, some really tough teams they’ve played on their schedule. Lane does a great job with his program, with his team. They’ve got a great staff. They got really good players. He’s done an incredible job.

UGA Football: Game Recap – Bulldogs Hold Off Missouri, 30-21

ATHENS, Ga. — It was a grind from start to finish Saturday night at Sanford Stadium, a white-knuckle ride for Georgia and Missouri with the top spot in the SEC East on the line. In the final eight minutes, the Bulldogs got an interception from a 320-pound senior defensive lineman and a career-long 48-yard field goal by a 175-pound freshman to help Georgia pull out 30-21 win.

The Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0 SEC), ranked No. 1 in the polls all season but No. 2 in this week’s first College Football Playoff rankings, had to battle against the Tigers (7-2, 3-2), ranked No. 12 by the CFP, to stay undefeated. The win was Georgia’s 26th in a row, the 24th straight on Dooley Field, and the program’s 25th consecutive SEC regular-season win.

UGA Football: Postgame Notes: Georgia-Missouri

Extending The Streaks:

With today’s 30-21 win, top-ranked Georgia (9-0, 6-0 SEC; #2 CFP) has extended its school record for consecutive victories now to 26. The streak began during the 2021 season (Dec. 31) when the Bulldogs beat #2 Michigan 34-11 in a CFP semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl. This streak ranks tied for the third longest in SEC history (Alabama won 26 in a row from 2015-16).

Georgia extended its school record with its 25th consecutive regular season SEC victory dating to a 31-24 win over Miss. State on Nov. 21, 2020. This streak ranks second in SEC history.

The Bulldogs extended their school record for consecutive regular season wins to 36, which leads all of FBS. This streak began during the 2020 season with a 31-24 win over Miss. State. on Nov. 21.
