UGA Recruiting: Don’t Panic, Decommits Work in Our Favor 91% of the Time

Okay, let’s just start off with the truth. It isn’t any fun when recruits decommit from your school. It also isn’t something to panic over, especially in June and ESPECIALLY when Kirby Smart is your head coach. Starting with his first full recruiting class in 2017, the Dawgs have seen plenty of decommits. We’ve also seen plenty of them commit again. Kirby and company are also very good at replacing these decommits with another recruit with the saem or a higher ranking.

These are also unprecedented times with recruits finally able to visit again. Buckle up, because this will happen A LOT more this year. Just remember, the Dawgs usually come out on top.

More on Turnage

WHAT I KNOW – I am told that as of last night a final decision has not been made by Turnage. I was also told by another person that he is not officially in the transfer portal from UGA. Don’t expect this to play out very long.

WHAT I THINK –

1. There’s obviously something going on here, but his tweet backs up the fact that a final decision hasn’t been made as of late last night (6-6-21).

2. The offer to Akayleb Evans is a two-part message to Turnage. Sh%$ or get off the pot and we need another experienced DB ready to play regardless of Derion Kendrick.

3. I think reports are correct that he’s not in Athens, but I don’t think he has gone as far as packing his stuff for good.

It also gives UGA the leverage in the situation

PREDICTION – There’s too much smoke for this to just go away, so I’ll predict that he doesn’t stick with UGA. Kirby and company have been known to work some magic in recruiting. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Everyone Accounted For!

Okay, soooooooo yesterday was friggin’ HUGE!!!

And in case it comes up, we are told that all 4 transfers are official with UGA. Turnage is even on campus now, joining Tykee Smith, Arik Gilbert, and Derion Kendrick.

Kendrick may have a little work to do academically, but we fully expect him to be a 100% full go when it’s time. Gilbert had to have gotten a hardship waiver or something for the last semester at LSU when he left in the middle of classes. We fully expect him to be ready to go as well.

Double Commit Watch

I doubt there will be any kind of announcement from either one, but UGA will very likely get great news twice this week. We have definitely seen the reports about Arik Gilbert being at UGA soon, some even saying today.

Don’t be shocked if he is in Athens today. From someone very close to this on the UGA side, that is what we expect to happen.

In case that’s not enough, we’ve also been told that it is a go for Derion Kendrick to join the guys this week. It could happen as early as today or Wednesday or as late as this weekend!

These two additions should put UGA on pace for a great season and big playoff run!

UGA Football: Two More TV Dates Announced

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia’s second and third football games this fall – the home opener versus UAB on Sept. 11 and the Southeastern Conference opener against South Carolina on Sept. 18 – were among an early round of selections made Thursday for the ESPN networks, according to an announcement by the league office.

The Bulldogs’ contest in Athens against the Blazers during the second week of the season will be slated for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.  The following Saturday, Georgia will play host to the Gamecocks at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Kickoff times and networks had already been announced for the Bulldogs’ season opener versus Clemson in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte on Sept. 4 and for Georgia’s annual showdown with Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., on Oct. 30.  The Georgia-Clemson game will be at 7:30 p.m. on ABC while the Georgia-Florida matchup will be at 3:30 p.m. on CBS. The Saturday, Oct. 16, game with Kentucky in Athens will be the Homecoming game.

Kickoff times and networks were announced for the first three weeks of the season and selected games were announced for three other Saturdays later in the year.  For any games not chosen before the start of the season, the normal 12- or six-day selection process will be used during the season.

It has also been announced that Georgia’s October 16 game against Kentucky will be the annual Homecoming game.

Following a 2020 season that featured all SEC teams playing a 10-game conference-only regular season, the league will resume its 12-game regular season schedule in 2021, featuring eight SEC games and four non-conference games before the postseason.  The SEC Football Championship Game will be played Dec. 4 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta at 4 p.m. on CBS.

UGA Sports: Athletics Board Convenes for Spring Meetings

LAKE OCONEE, Ga. —— Reports by University of Georgia President Jere W. Morehead, J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks, and an update on current and future facilities projects highlighted the first day of the UGA Athletic Association Board of Directors annual spring meeting.

In his report, Brooks touched on a wide range of topics and led with his most prominent observations since taking over the athletic directorship in January.
• He thanked the loyalty and generosity of the Georgia fans, especially through the past 15 months of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
• He praised the performances of the UGA student-athletes amid the many challenges presented by the pandemic.
• He stressed the importance of retaining coaches, specifically women’s basketball coach Joni Taylor, equestrian coach Meghan Boenig and baseball coach Scott Stricklin, all of whom signed contract extensions in the past two months.
• Brooks also announced initiatives aimed at improving the fan experience at all Georgia athletic venues.  Prices of five core concession items — bottled water, bottled soda, candy, hot dogs and popcorn — will be reduced by nearly 50 percent.  The price reductions came about thanks to savings created by the mobile ticketing system implemented this year, which will be continued in 2022.

Additional highlights of Brooks’ report:

Transfer Watch

Expect movement on Derion Kendrick and UGA soon (next week or two) from what I’ve been told.

That is all!

UGA Football: JT Daniels Brings His Running Backs, Receivers, and Tight Ends to California

Way to go JT Daniels! This is what a quarterback that wants to win a championship looks like. The QB1 for UGA is back home in California, but he isn’t alone. He has his skill position players in tow, which means a lot of things for the UGA offense.

The obvious is that they will still be able to practice together. They’ll be able to continue to gel on the field. Just as important, they’ll get to spend quality time together. Those of you that have played football know that it is much more fun when you’re playing with YOUR BOYS, the guys that you are closest to. Getting along and gelling off the field is a very underrated aspect of a successful team. Most guys are willing to go above and beyond for someone that they have laughed with and bonded with off the field.

With that said, check out the Dawgs in Cali:

More on the Transfer Rumors

If you read yesterday, you saw where we talked about the rumors of an offensive lineman possibly transferring.

The name that we got that was involved in the RUMOR is former 5* Broderick Jones.. Again, as of right now we don’t think anything will happen.

If, and I mean IF the rumor is true, the only thing I can think of is this. And this is just me guessing/thinking out loud:

(The only way I could see it is if he really wants the LT spot and sees the writing on the wall with Amarius Mims).

Again, nobody I’ve talked to knows anything about an imminent transfer out and especially this one.

What happens a lot of times is that a player will voice some kind of frustration, then someone close to the players hears about it, They tell someone else, then it get blown way out of proportion the more people are told. Next thing you know, there are transfer rumors.

These guys are going to get frustrated when they’re not in the starting lineup. For most of them, it’s the first time they’ve been on the sidelines and not the only big man on campus. That doesn’t mean they’re going to transfer every time they get pissed.
