Top-ranked Georgia leads the Kentucky series 60-12-2 and is on a 11-game winning streak. This is the Dogs’ longest winning streak in the series after twice having 10-game win streaks. Kentucky’s last win in the Georgia series came in 2009 in Athens when it stormed back from a 20-6 halftime deficit for a 34-27 win. It was UK’s first win in Athens in 32 years. The No. 11 Wildcats have started this season 6-0 for the first time since 1950.

We’re Coming To Your City . . . Again

This will mark the second time ESPN College GameDay will be in Athens in the last three weeks. GameDay came on Oct. 2 when the Dogs topped No. 8 Arkansas 37-0. Prior to this Saturday’s matchup, Georgia has won two straight top-10 showdowns at home with GameDay on site after also blasting No. 7 Auburn 27-6 in 2020. GameDay was also in Charlotte for the top-five matchup against No. 3 Clemson in Georgia’s 2021 season opener. Counting this weekend, GameDay will have only visited the same location twice during the regular season within a three-week period two times (Alabama, 2014). This marks the seventh time that GameDay has come to Athens.

SEC Nation will also be visiting Athens this weekend. This is only the third time that SEC Nation and GameDay have been at the same site in history, including the 2018 Georgia-Florida showdown that the Bulldogs won 34-17.

Dominating Defense & Offense Delivering Points

Georgia leads the nation in Scoring Defense giving up just 5.5 points per game. The Bulldogs are averaging 39.8 points/game. Last week, they scored 34 points in the road win over No. 18 Auburn, as the Tigers were allowing just 16.2 p/g.

UGA Football: Coach Smart and Defensive Backs Preview Top-25 Matchup

ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart, along with a pair of defensive backs previewed Saturday’s Top 25 matchup against No. 11 Kentucky. The Bulldogs and the Wildcats kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET in Athens, Ga.

On Tuesday, Coach Smart, Redshirt Sophomore Dan Jackson and Junior Lewis Cine offered the following comments.

Head Coach Kirby Smart

On James Cook’s reception during the Auburn game…
“Well we thought that I got told from the box that they thought he caught it, but I was trying to ask the official because they typically review those so you don’t have to burn your challenge or anything like that because they’re reviewing every play and the official just said that he dropped the ball when he landed, he went out of bounds, he never had possession of it but I don’t know. Coach’s copy it was hard to tell what happened on it, James (Cook) thought he caught it but I don’t know that he would have had the first down, maybe you know better than me. I thought it would have been like right at it right just short, and we’d had a tough call to make because the point differential there was worth the two score. That was the big decision but we’d already decided if Zamir (White) didn’t score on his, we were gonna go for it on the one that he broke loose. Because the point differential was completely different so that three points was big to make a two score game.”

UGA Football: Coach Smart, Players Offer Comments on Kentucky

University of Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart and select Bulldog student-athletes offered the following comments on Monday.

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs will host No. 11 Kentucky on Saturday for a 3:30p.m. kickoff against the Wildcats in Sanford Stadium.

Head Coach Kirby Smart
Opening Statement…
“I would like to say a quick hello to Coach Dooley. I appreciate him coming over. It’s always great to see him in the audience and also at practice from time to time. Good to have you Coach. I got a text from Derek (Dooley) the other day. It’s good to hear from him as well. I appreciate you being here.”

“We are on to Kentucky. I think when you look at what Coach Stoops has been able to do, it’s pretty remarkable. First off, he’s a really good football coach. I’ve known him a long time. Recruited against him. We went head-to-head on a lot of recruits back when he was Florida State’s defensive coordinator and I was at Alabama. He is a tremendous coach. A tremendous builder of men. To see what he’s done with the consistency which they perform at such a high level. I say it all the time, to be a good football coach you have to have all of the phases. The recruiting phase, the organizational phase, the development phase, the three phases – offense, defense, and special teams, and they are really incredible at all three. They have a great system set up that they recruit to. They develop guys. It seems like every year you are talking about their defense, and they are doing a tremendous job offensively this year, as well. The quarterback and transfers they have gotten have really added juice to their offense, and they have a great special teams unit as well.”
