BULLDOGS WELCOME VANDERBILT TO ATHENS FOR HOMECOMING

Top-ranked Georgia (6-0, 3-0 SEC) returns to Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium Saturday to play host to the Vanderbilt Commodores (3-3, 0-2 SEC). Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised by the SEC Network. Saturday will be Homecoming, and the Commodores have served as the opponent on this day 24 times. The Bulldogs are 20-4 against Vanderbilt on Homecoming and own a 59-20-2 advantage in the overall series. Vanderbilt’s last win over Georgia spoiled 2016 Homecoming, edging the Bulldogs 17-16.

In the history of Georgia football, the Bulldogs are 80-18-2 on Homecoming. Georgia has faced 10 different SEC teams on Homecoming. Along with the game, the traditions include a Friday afternoon parade, former Redcoat Band members and UGA cheerleaders performing with the current squads during the game and at halftime. Also, a Homecoming King and Queen are crowned.

A GLIMPSE AT VANDERBILT

Vanderbilt finishes a stretch of three straight games against top 10 opponents when it visits top-ranked Georgia. The Commodores led No. 9 Ole Miss 20-17 at the half this past Saturday in Nashville before the Rebels stormed back for a 52-28 win. Two weeks ago, the Commodores fell 55-3 to No. 2 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Vanderbilt is in its second season under Clark Lea. The Commodores are averaging 33.2 points a game while allowing 36.8 points a game.

The Commodores are tied for first nationally (with Ohio State, Clemson and Tennessee) having scored on every trip to the Red Zone this season. Vanderbilt is 21-for-21 (17 TDs, 4 FGs) in the Red Zone. In addition, Vanderbilt has registered a takeaway in 15 consecutive games, dating to last season. The 15-game streak is the longest active streak in the SEC and the fourth-longest in the FBS.

UGA Football: Ground Game Leads The Way Against Auburn

At the end of a first-quarter second-and-1 run by Georgia running back Daijun Edwards, center Sedrick Van Pran got up from the pile, 28 yards downfield, and emphatically pumped his fists. It was that kind of day for the Bulldogs’ backs and the big men up front that pave the way for them.

“I got a big pancake block,” Van Pran said when asked why he was so excited after that play. “You know, getting a pancake block is fun, but when you score off of it, it’s even more fun.

“I was hyped up, I was super excited, and I couldn’t control my emotions.”

The No. 2-ranked Bulldogs didn’t get any points on that drive, but they did end their 42-10 thumping of Auburn on Saturday at Sanford Stadium with six rushing touchdowns. In an old-school clash of longtime opponents — this was their 126th meeting — the Bulldogs controlled both lines of scrimmage and ran their way to an easy win.

UGA Football: Bulldogs Stuff Tigers In 42-10 Win

ATHENS, Ga. — Behind a very strong effort from its defense and a powerful and productive rushing attack — with three touchdowns by Daijun Edwards and a 64-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run by quarterback Stetson Bennett — No. 2 Georgia knocked off Auburn, 42-10, Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium.

In the Deep South’s oldest football rivalry — Saturday was their 127th meeting — it was an old-school football match, with lots of runs and stuffed runs and very few aerial fireworks. Georgia ran for 292, amassed 500 yards of total offense, held Auburn to 258 yards of total offense, and got big third-down stop after big third-down stop — Auburn was 5 of 17 on third down.

Georgia has now won the last six meetings in the series, dating back to the SEC Championship Game in 2017. Georgia also added to its narrow lead in the overall series against Auburn, improving to 63-56-8. In a series full of quirks, the Bulldogs are now 17-18 all-time against the Tigers in Athens and have an 18-12-2 record at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
