UGA Recruiting: Weekly Review – Dawgs Got Better Last Week
The second week in July proved to be a big one for the Georgia Bulldogs. There have been over 100 commitments so far in the month and the Dawgs have been a big part of it. While there was only one added to the 2023 commit list this past week, it was a very important piece to the puzzle. On the 10th, Raylen Wilson did what everyone was expecting and Committed to the G!
Wilson is a 4* linebacker and one of the most athletic, if not the most athletic at his position. This athleticism combined with the fact that he’s only 16 gives him more upside than most anyone else in the 2023 class. He joins CJ Allen to form a dynamic duo at the inside linebacker position for Kirby Smart and ILB coach Glenn Schumann. UGA also added Troy Bowles yesterday to form one of the best ILB classes in history.
There were also plenty of targets and/or former targets who committed elsewhere last week. As we always say, you win some and you lose some in recruiting. It’s part of what makes this fun to follow. Not all of these guys had committable offers to UGA, but not all of them are “guys we didn’t want anyways”. Some just felt better in other places.
Adepujo Adebawore is an edge prospect who the Dawgs targeted early on. I do believe UGA had higher targets, while Oklahoma was also going to be hard to beat here regardless. The Sooners are getting a good one. Dylan Lonergan kind of surprised everyone by committing to Alabama on the 11th, as The Crimson Tide already had top 10 QB Eli Holstein committed. Lonergan is an in-state prospect UGA chose to not pursue heavily in their quest to go all-in for Arch Manning. An in-state prospect that we did recruit pretty heavily early on is OL Madden Sanker. He committed to Louisville on Tuesday.
Another in-state prospect who committed Tuesday is Raul Aguirre. After looking like an Alabama lean for a while, he committed to Miami. The 4* linebacker had UGA in his top 5, but he was never a priority target for the Dawgs. While it looked like UGA had momentum for 4* linebacker Tony Rojas for a week or two in May, it became apparent that Penn State was the team to beat and he committed to the Nittany Lions Thursday. Of course it all worked out for the best, since it looks like UGA will get our top 3 targets at the position.
Since starting Dawgs Central at first of June, we have been playing catch up to get “official Dawgs Central predictions” out. We’ve had a lot of these guys predicted to UGA on Field St Forum for a good while, but still want to make it official here. We decided to post these predictions as the prospects’ decision dates near. Last week we put in official predictions for 4* linebacker Troy Bowles and 4* defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett to UGA. Bowles announces his decision today, while Jarrett commits on July 19th.
