UGA Recruiting: What Happened With the Dawgs Last Week
Here at Field Street Forum and Dawgs Central we want to make sure you don’t miss a thing. We’re going to start doing a recruiting review every single week so you can have all of the week’s happenings in one place. This will normally go out on Saturday, but we’ll post this one today to make sure we’re all caught up. We’ll also cover from the first of July:
Where to start!
It has been an absolutely massive month for the Dawgs and it promises to get only better. Four star corner Daniel Harris started us off on the right path by committing to UGA on the first of July. Sydir Mitchell decided to take some of that momentum away two days later by choosing Texas over Georgia after the Dawgs led for the majority of his recruitment. He says it has nothing to do with NIL, but……………………………ah, nevermind.
UGA got back on track in a BIG way when 2024 4* receiver Ny Carr late last Tuesday night. His Colquitt County teammate, 5* tight end Landen Thomas, followed up two days later with a commitment of his own. You’d think those two committed at a certain time for a reason. I can’t think of the reason right now, but I’m ‘JUST SAYIN’! This more than made up for two Dawg commits flipping earlier in the week. Class of 2023 offensive lineman RyQueze McElderry was on the UGA commit list since last November, but continued to take visits. He was never considered a solid commit, being from Alabama with an offer from the Crimson Tide. He finally flipped to Alabama on Independence Day. The same could be said for 2024 DB Antione Jackson being from south Florida. He committed to UGA in March, but flipped to Miami on the 2nd of July.
Georgia received huge news yesterday, as 4* LB Raylen Wilson ‘Committed to the G’. He was a long time Michigan commit, but had Georgia on his mind the whole time. For most of this year it never looked like he’d end up a Wolverine. Wilson took official visits to UGA, Michigan, and Florida after decommitting in late June. He’s now the third highest rated prospect on UGA’s 2023 commit list.
There were plenty of other Dawg Targets that chose other programs for one reason or another. Some of these guys weren’t necessarily priority targets and some just ended up liking other schools better. Here’s where they ended up:
Rico Flores – Notre Dame
Dashawn Womack – LSU
’24 Jonathan Echols – Tennessee
Malik Benson – Alabama
Shamurad Umarov – Tennessee
Jayden Wayne – Miami
As far as predictions go……………….this is recruiting, you win some and you lose some. A couple of these will go back into June, but they need to be covered. So far our missed predictions are to Texas. We had both Syfir Mitchell and Arch Manning predicted to UGA before they chose the Longhorns. I’m sure they’re all tired of saying “Texas is Back”, so maybe these two will help out there.
We felt comfortable enough to put in a prediction for Tyler Williams on June 21st and feel even better about that pick now. He’ll be announcing his decision in September. FSF put in two official predictions on June 29th. One for the aforementioned Raylen Wilson and one for 2024 5* quarterback Julian Sayin, who will likely commit sooner rather than later. We officially predicted Daniel Harris to UGA the day before his commitment, but had him pegged to UGA for a while. The latest prediction made by the FSF crew was made on July 1st for UGA to get 2023 linebacker Todd Bowles. He’ll announce his decision this week.
Now that we’re all caught up, look for our Weekly Preview to be posted soon.
